Due to government neglect and lack of direct market knowledge among Nepali traders, high-quality Nepalese teas have long been exported to India at extremely low prices.
Indian bulk buyers historically tag these teas as Darjeeling — India's finest — or blend them to export to the US and global markets as premium "Made in India" product. This has left Nepalese tea largely unknown on the world stage, despite being superior in quality.
